Picture-in-Picture (PiP)

Info

Currently for Minecraft 1.10.2

  • Entirely Client-Side. Does not need to be installed on the server.
  • Originated from a private mod (also by the name of PiP) I had written for myself for the use of my Forgecraft series. Requested to be made public by Gigabit101, so I revamped and rewrote it.
  • Renders other player’s Point of Views in a “Picture-in-Picture” style on the Minecraft screen when no GUI is open.
  • Renders can be toggled on and off in-game! A player’s face instead of a render indicates that the player is out of range/unavailable.
  • Allows unlimited renders of different player PoVs in a single line in several positions and orientations (until your computer hangs at 1 FPS even!)
  • You can selectively show only one person’s PoV by scrolling your mouse while holding the toggle key while toggling it on (indicated by the white border, hit the toggle key again to disable).
  • You can toggle first person/third person states by hitting the middle mouse button on a selected PoV (the white border!). Yeah, you can do a full 360 view of yourself!
  • Config options to adjust size, update frequency (to decrease lag), orientation, positions, etc! You can change them In-game (Hit escape, hit the Options button, then hit the O key).
  • In-game Commands with /pip to quickly add or remove a player PoV, or list down the tracked players.

Known Issues

  • Does not work with the Shaders and some other mods. Only shows a blank fog render.
  • Causes certain issues with minimap mods, causing it to flicker.
  • If you’re getting a “Framebuffers not supported” message, make sure the fboEnable setting in Minecraft is turned on, and restart and try again. If that doesn’t work, you really don’t support framebuffers (according to minecraft)
  • Potential crash with bspkrs’ Core with rendering player/mob on the main menu. Disabling it in their config file fixes it for now.
  • Potential exploitation of this mod (since it’s 100% client-side and allows watching other people without their consent). I leave it to the community and the users to do the right thing, and apologise to server owners in advance.
  • Because of how the mod is purely client-side, the limit of tracking other players is bound to Minecraft’s max tracking distance of other players, so no, this does not work across dimensions or long distances.
  • I’m aware of the Buddycam mod. I’m in no way trying to replace it. This is my take on a “other player’s PoV” mod, with my own preferences/tweaks. Features and functions may differ from the Buddycam mod. Entirely up to you which mod you’d rather use.

You could still make it so there is a timer for a person before they die and the other person saves them. Or you could make a cooperative map.

Isn’t this the same as the BuddyCam Mod by Romibi?

I’ve had a look at that mod, and I added a footnote in the Known Issues section about it.

I know ichun won’t answer this question because he has already answered it over 100 times. This is a quote from here:http://ichun.us/support/mod-packs/

“For all my mods, with exceptions of PortalGun and GravityGun:
You are allowed to include the mods in any mod pack, as long as you provide the necessary credit. My name and a link to this blog or the mod topic (if this blog is unavailable) is fine.”

Does it work on mobs? I want to use it in minecraft comes alive, and if it doesn’t could you add it? And please have it in 1.7.2 because forge 1. 7.10 doesn’t work for me.

Can you change the “toggle key” in the config file, I have had a look but have had no luck, can you either add that feature or tell me how to fix it. (My sprint key is Tab that’s why)

    • The Stacinator July 1, 2014 12:22 am  Reply

You can change the keybindings in the controls menu in the pause menu in game

    • Derrrrrrrrrrrr :3 July 9, 2014 10:20 am  Reply

Yes, what you do is you install Forge and then make a mods folder (if you don’t already have one) and put this mod in there with iChunUtil.

if it could be integrated with portalgun’s turrets (or mobs, entities, etc.) would be great.
    BTW really nice “spygame” mod.

It almost works with the TPPI modpack (v. 1.04). The mod loads just fine, and the slash command /pip is accessible, but even without optifine shaders, etc, the PiP window will not render. Instead it shows the player’s face (indicating that they are out of range), regardless of how far away they are. Here is a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/hcbK05D.jpg

It’s probably a mod conflict. Hopefully we’ll find which one is causing the issues soon. (TPPI modlist: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoDq0dQBZJODdGR0aENSUEp4a0FRLVhnRGNoX2lRMGc#gid=0

It also makes the ui elements flicker strangely, including the chat window, minimap, and ars magica 2 bars.

      • iChun June 25, 2014 11:11 am  Reply

I’ve not tested compatibility with 1.6 heavily. Also, did you remember that PiP can be toggled on and off and is off by default?

        • B.R. Brainerd June 27, 2014 1:16 am  Reply

I think so. I:animationis set to 1 in my PiP.cfg. I:pipIcons=1 as well

        • B.R. Brainerd June 27, 2014 2:28 am  Reply

Aha! Holding down TAB did the trick: http://i.imgur.com/k3Z55lX.jpg

The PiP config menu is inaccessible in TPPI so I’m glad I stumbled across the right bind! While rendering, JourneyMap & the chat freak out, but it’s working!. Also the view is strangely zoomed in and tilted to the side, making it difficult to see what the player is looking at (but perhaps this is intentional). Changing I:pipView by editing PiP.cfg directly doesn’t seem to change the perspective at all–indeed I’m unsure if any direct edits to PiP.cfg are affecting the game right now.

Thanks for another great mod iChun!

Just tested this with my partner.
When I added her to view, the view I saw was very skewed. If she looked right at me on her screen, the PiP showed me the ground to my right, with a “Doom-esque” FOV
