Overview
This mod adds the portalgun, as well as several other portal-related aspects, to Minecraft! (iChun note – The pages here are outdated. Things are likely to change in the future)
Topmost Issues With Latest Version
- Crashing with: cpw.mods.fml.common.LoaderException: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: portalgun.common.PortalGun
There are NEW installation steps now. Just dragdrop the zip into the mods folder. Repeat, DO NOT extract it.
DO NOT EXTRACT THE ZIP FILE! - See through portals does not work right. (However if they rotate your camera, please redownload and reinstall)
- If you are having other issues, be sure to read the FAQ before asking something that’s been addressed a thousand times.

I agree with this guy. It’s not that tekkit is “too hard” or anything. It’s just that technically TEKKIT IS ILLEGAL. The modders are not receiving any credit through tekkit. Also, the adf.ly download and such makes them money, but tekkit practically STEALS that from them. Sorry, but after seeing some of the replies to this I had to clarify why people don’t like tekkit.
The only reason some people hate Tekkit because at first they did not ask mod authors for permissions to use their mods and also because it is extremely outdated. BUT now Tekkit has asked mod authors for permissions and have got them.

i’m having same problem and this causes some ID mistaches but i can’t figure out Why it has ID mistaches i checked ID:s and also there is raining chickens and they “explode” when they touch ground this happens on servers too

No it does not. It requires Forge. Most ML mods except Better Than Wolves work with Forge.

If you would know that there was a render engine change in minecraft that broke that it helps understand that not everything is possible. But, the genius iChun actually has figured out how to do such things with the sync core in FC1 when he pranked Direwolf20. It would use the same idea behind Antichamer.

Hey iChun, when will you update the PortalGun mod? And if you are planning to, will it be a major update? Because I’m trying to make a 1X1 scale replica of the original Portal game and if all goes well, I might make a replica of Portal 2. But that requires Thermal Discouragement Beams (Lasers), Discouragement Redirecting Cubes, Repulsion, Propulsion, Conversion, and Cleansing Gels, and Excursion Funnels (the blue and orange things that make you float in them and carry you around). Then there are certain things that I’d like to see added to the mod like large 2X2 Heavy Duty Buttons, the Blue Dotted Power Cable or whatever you want to call it, Unstationary Scaffold which are the platforms that move across a blue laser beam, Victory Lifts, Toxic Goo, Crushers, Chamberlocks (elevators), Hard Light Bridges, Switches (Pedestal Buttons), and Materials Emancipation Grills to be fixed. I know this is a hard task because there is just so much to add but I just think that it would complete the Portal and Portal 2 feel added to Minecraft. I know that you’re probably capable of doing all this and I know it’s a big order but just throw coding at the wall here and see what sticks. Hopefully you see this.

Even when i dont select not to see through portals in the configs it still does! I keep trying and trying but i keeps letting me see through the portals.
i think your problem is: when you select non see through portals it looks like its see through but its not, its just all white through the portal. if you don’t want it like that then make it so the portals look like the stuff when you only have one portal down.

Hey i have a problem i have a lot of your mods and i have portal gun and gravity gun mod both installed with optifine, here\’s the problem the gravity gun after i use the portal gun shows all block textures and i can\’t see my arms and my armor and other textures are screwed up too
Restart your Minecraft… There is currently an odd glitch with lighting in the Nether (and End, maybe?) that does this to the textures. It sucks, I know.

I believe there is a Portal Gels mod. I agree, the portals would look cooler if light could pass through them… And if there were an option for portals to use the CCTV-Method to display, that would fix the problem with Intel cards.

i junst whanted to sugent somthing how about a glados core, all other cores, the super button, egless safty cube, the button for it and just a cube button like in portal 2 co-op, an acual relaxsation vault, elevators, bombs from sp campain, and a block that portals can’t be placed on

I followed the instructions. I even got help from my little brother. That\\’s how you know I\\’m desperate. I installed forge by copying all of its files into the minecraft.jar, then made a mods folder to put the portal gun .zip file in and ran minecraft. I even downgraded to 1.4.4. There was no crash, but the mod isn\\’t loading. I can\\’t find the new objects in creative mode, so it doesn\\’t seem to be working. I am on a mac. Any idea what I\\’m doing wrong?
P.S. I posted this in the F.AQ. section, but idt anyone would see it there…

Ichun, i know you are very clever and this might be possible… what about adding deadly neurotoxin using green smoke particles and pneumatic vents using the same “logic” you used in the “Shoot to the moon” feature that sucks blocks and entities… those would be really cool too 🙂 i hope you like the idea..

forge is the same thing, it has audiomod with it, forge allows you to have way more mods, exept player resising mods

Ok, so i have installed the mod and everything but as soon as i use something that is in the mod, my game freezes but does not crash. It’s driving me crazy! Is there something that i did wrong? btw, your other mods are outstanding.
Are you sure you deleted “META-INF”?
I use the MagicLauncher for all my mods and it automatically deletes META-INF
see, heres the problem. MagicLauncher, at least for me, screws up EVERYTHING! sorry it can’t be easy. just check if you have the latest version of forge, and then, if it doesnt work still, ditch magic launcher and do it manually.

Erm … when i login , i have forge everything installed , i hold the portal gun and walk around , after awhile all the textures screw up and my character’s hands disappear and chests aren’t visible and the inside of the portal gun can be seen.

Simple, install optifine. Mcpathcer’s HD texture pack fix is incompatible with forge. Optifine does the same thing, and it is compatible with all mods.
Put a Pellet Launcher on the side of a block.
Put some plain old vanilla gravel on top of the pellet launcher.

Ok, so the mod works perfectly fine for me. Everything is perfect except for one thing…the sounds don’t work! I had it installed before and everything worked fine, but then I had to remove the mod for another one to work, and now I can’t figure out how to make the sounds work again! Please help! T_T

Ichun, you should incorporate potatoes into the “personalized” portal gun.

It’s a null pointer. Get rid of the map you played with it on, or make a new map to play on. it’s usually caused by something the mod author didn’t patch up.

In SMP some peoples have chunk load bugs and other loading problems… Is that normal?
when playing direwolf smp modpack from the ftb launcher. I experience this problem. When i open up a portal with my atlas portal gun and walk through everyone on the server gets teleported to the spot where i shot the second portal. not sure if this is a bug or specific to that certain modpack. Dearest iChun, I’d like to add a suggestion for your mod. May you add an option to dye our portal guns in the 16 colors of dye? And please add a blue gel option for the turrets, as well. And make turret spawners too, like the cube spawners, and make an Emergency Intelligence Incinerator, for the cubes, and when an entity is put in, it will be destroyed, and trigger a redstone signal. Make it openable by redstone too! 🙂

On the FTB forums, when searching for End of Stream a server owner says that removing Portal Gun fixed all End of Stream errors for every player on his server. Removing it on ours seems to have resolved the issue as well 🙁

I’m thinking adding a radio (it’s branched off from another part of the mod, so it’s valid.) and the radio would play “Exile, Vilify” if possible. It would be like an oracle turret in the sense that it would be rare to find, you would have a small chance of spawning it when you place a radio.

This is a surgestion for something you could add, which adds to something that is already in the game. A “dispenser” for the turret/sentry, like the one for the storage cubes and such.
P.S. I do hope this is something that will not be deleted cause of surgestion, but if it does, sorry.

The mod is glichy with me, eveything works but the texture are messed up. They dont look like any of the pics in the FAQ, Portals look like a mess of blue or red, faithplates look messed, to put it one way, the texture are messed. But eveything works oddly…

Well with the latest version. The single portal guns are missing their “single portal not placed” texture as I will call it.
Oh, and the game randomly crashed when I tried smelting a Portal gun for the 3rd time.
I looked through the FAQ and didn’t see this.

That’s because you’re missing that mod, she recently made it so you have to have that to use the Gravity and portal guns, as well as the trail mix

Ummm… The download just goes to the CreeperHost main page.
Portals need to be tied to players so if another player with the same color gun fires a portal it doesn’t connect to the other persons portals. I know you could just give them a different gun, but if you have more then 5 players you have a problem. The players portals would disappear when they log out and then reappear when they log back in.
Also sliding doors would be cool.

For Me I do not know if this normal but the bacon portal gun in my hand is a pig and for all portal guns sound of going in a portalthe sound is a pig oinking did not edit any files

Help! I cant’t hear any sounds of the mods. I’ve checked the files at .minecraft/resources/portalgun and all of them has the same size (7kb), and they appear to be broken. My conection is ok, so I don’t know if the server is down, or i did something bad.
Also, the game just freezes when i select any portal gun in the hotbar 🙁

hey can u make a portal surface so i can build a cool tasting chamber network without having to but backwards pistons were i don’t want people putting portals.
when i grabbed the storage cube with the portal gun then changed the item in my hotbar to nothing it was still being held

I installed everything and the other items needed for the mod correctly in 1.5.1 and every time I take out the Portal Gun the game freezes and then crashes! I don’t know what to do and also I am running on the latest version of OSX. (10.8.3)
Nice to know I’m not the only person having this issue.
[Win7 x64] Installed the latest Forge (also tried with an earlier version of Forge on another attempt), placed iChunUtil and PortalGun zips in /mods/ folder.. Taking out any portal gun, or using some of the other items (Aerial Faith Plate, for example), locks Minecraft completely. No crash report or anything. Forced to end the process.
Help me please my Minecraft always crashes when I use anything this mod offer! Please fix in next update please, and a future thanks.

BUG some blocks are not giving texture (High energy pellet catcher,launcher, the faith plates and cube droppers.
Not sure if this is a bug or not, but I noticed that picking up objects with the G key will pick up any solid block in the environment like the Gravity Gun mod, so it would be very easy to cheat on a map. Just a heads-up if nobody else has already pointed this out.
Not accepting suggestions is a real ass thing to do. Right now this mod is relativity small. Let it grow with ideas from your fans.

Configurablility for which blocks you can place portals on.
Because, well, I wanna make a real portal gun map.
And in the games, you can only place portals on white surfaces.
So that would be great seeing included.

Finally was able to disable the grabbing functionally of the portalgun (at least for blocks.) People were able to grief spawn with it. :/ Is it possible for you to add some sort of PermissionsEx tie-in, so it can be disabled in certain areas? Or maybe some check in the configs for whether the lifted block is within a “protected” zone, as defined by x and z coords? :3

whenever you use the single colored portal gun and you reset it, it gives an missing texture block on the overlay. is there any explanation why this is happening? thanks in advance.
EDIT: managed to fix it by copying the overlay folder from mods/portalgun/textures to the portalgun folder (with the java code n stuff)
EDIT2: also, moon portal textures on celing portals are flipped, making it look awkward

theres no checkpoint block, lasers, or redirection cubes!!!!! i can’t even use the MEG; it just says “I told you not to use it” !!! help me? i redownloaded it and everything…..
iChun rewrote it, there are no lasers, checkpoint blocks, or redirection cubes. they might be put in a future update but i don’t know for sure
and the MEG isn’t completed yet, iChun’s still working on it

I’m looking to build an awesome portal map but i need to make it so that portals can NOT be placed on certain blocks, for instance if i don’t want portals to be placed on quartz blocks, but i can’t find anywhere in the config file where i put the block id’s. Someone please tell me how and where i can change weather or not portals can be placed on certain blocks!

This mod is not updated for minecraft 1.5.2 it is still at 1.5.1 so that’s why it freezes. This is why I hate minor updates that do nothing to gameplay

Dude, did you read his post regarding iChun Util? It auto-obfuscates the mod to meet compatibility standards.
When i go through portals i sometimes fall through/get stuck in a block. I feel this is because of chunk loading and ect. But i just thought i would tell you about it.
A suggestion for you, dear sir (Apologies if it’s already been suggested), how about making a whitelist and blacklist for blocks that can have portals on in the config file, both configurable and toggle-able? I’m thinking of making a portal map myself, and it would be useful to be able to put in the ID’s of blocks that can and can’t have a portal attached to them.

ATTN everyone asking for block blacklist: iit’s already in.
Go to your mc saves, and open PortalGun_world.cfg
Then scroll down until you see portal placement id’s. Edit that for the block you don’ want to be portable.

Ichun in your next update you should add like a plugin or feature or something that allows like settings in the sentry gun to be switched on and off by the placer such as like player fire mob fire friendly mob fire and like maybe a way to add players to a list of nonenemies for like when your playing multiplayer. I think it would be a great addition to an already spectacular mod. Keep up the amazing work!.
Not sure what happened but since forge 715 when I select my portalgun in inventory Minecraft freezes.If I look at the forge log it shows massive “world has leaked” errors. The only way to get back to the save is to remove Portalgun mod, then go back in.If I dont pull Portalgun out it starts the game frozen.Anyone else?

Wanted to let you know that I’m experiencing an error with both the Portal Gun mod and the Gravity Gun mod. In both instances, when trying to select a gun and place it into inventory, the game freezes.
Wiped out my entire .minecraft folder and started with a fresh downloads and installs of minecraft, forge, iChun util, and portal gun, then again with gravity gun. I tried selecting all the items, and it seems to be only the guns causing the issue.
I was able to place the gun stand just fine, and none of the other non-weapon devices seems to be a problem, but the guns themselves are causing complete game freeze.
Everytime i hold a portal gun in my hand, minecraft stops responding.

Hey iChun, what about making neurotoxin? You could make tubes or use thermal expansion to transport neurotoxin around and store it in tanks. With a certain block called Gas dispenser, when connected to a tube with neurotoxin AND with redstone power it will release neurotoxin. The neurotoxin could be made of particles which would spread around a 5×5 configurable area that acts like a wither effect.

Hey, I know you already got the gun model for portal gun mod, but I wanted to know which software was used to create it, I’m making a game and making the graphics realistic it’s just time killing, so I decided to go voxel style, but I would like to know a special software for that.
I really love this mod plz update so we can use the incineration field and you should add cores that we can play with and toss around and a glados we can kill that would be great -thanks

Can someone help me I don’t have the option to turn off the mirror effect of the portal gun in my config and i cant find it any were all I get is the glitchy gray like metal look when i shoot the portal gun and i wish to turn that of to just a plan color look. If i can that is.
I think there is a glitch when I shoot a portal at the decorative moon and one beneath me I fall out of the world? I don’t know if it’s an easter egg you put in or if it’s a glitch. This happened with the Hats mod, this mod and the Gravity Gun mod.

I really love this mod, but I have three things to mention:
1.When you shoot fire charges through a portal, they will change their flight-vector back towards the direction it originally was shot. So if you shoot the charge north into a portal and it comes out flying west it will fly a curve until it’s flying north again.
2. The ingame configuration doesn’t work (at least at my minecraft)
3.I would really need some spheres. They wouldn’t have to do anything except behaving like cubes and looking like a sphere. All need them for is falling down and being carried around. I know, that we shouldn’t ask for this, and I’m not asking you to do this, I am just mentioning the idea, of implementing retextured weighted storage cubes as spheres.

when i installed the portal gon mod for my vanilla server 1.5.2 it was runing smooth for me and my friend but sometimes after he cant connect to my server this started happening after i downloaded this mod on my server.
i was extremely exited for minecraft 1.6.1 and i know forge for 1.6.1 is not quite done but i was wondering how soon you would update the portal gun mod and gravity gun mod would be up to date and usable. also if you could post a how to install video when you do since you are the one who created these great mods. thank you for the awesome mods

Hey there. Do you support the Portal Gun mod on Minecraft 1.6.2? I have Forge (Version: release 1.6.2-Forge9.10.0.789) but when I put the mod (downloaded above) into my mods folder it crashes (see below). I presume this is because this mod is only supported on Minecraft 1.5, is that true?

heres a bug, when i where the long fall boots in 1.6.2 its just a black box, covering the entire leg portion of my character, yes i have forge, ichun util, etc etc.

When I installed Optifine with Portal Gun mod on MC 1.5.2 I got a lag. There were textures of fire, lava, water, Nether portal and grass around the centre of the scren when I chose portal gun in my hotbar. But that was a while ago and I heard that it was fixed. Is that true?

The sound will not work.
Texture error (yes I have used the default texture pack to make sure). Whenever I load up a world and go to put on long fall boots, the boots flash on my body for a split second before they become a blank, completely black block-like armor that covers my all of my lower body (where boots and leggings would go).
Can you make an option to change between 3D gun, and 2D?

You already can. It’s in the cfg folder. If you want to change that, go “AppData>Roaming>.minecraft>config>PortalGun.cfg” and open with notepad. Scroll a bit until you see the section “client”. Find PortalGunModel and change the value “0” to “1”

I would really like it if he could make a seperate version of redstone that can go up walls like it does in portal. Also sliding panels and lifts. Not the lifts at the end of each chamber, but the ones that lift you up. You could right click on it and change how many blocks it could go up. Other wise I can’t make an exact replica of Portal. I really admire iChun, his work is amazing, and I think this mod has a lot of potential.

Aside from the rendering issues, horses get stuck in the ground whenever they go in a portal.

Thanks killjoy, trying to somehow keep it restricted just to one mod, that way, when I finish my map, players only need the resource pack and the mod.
OK, I made a way (without mods =D) for sliding panels existence. I made elevators. I even made lifts. but here is the real problem. I know it said that he won’t add anything that is not in the mod, but any suggestions on how I can get two things.
1) I need the electronic boards at the beginning of each test chamber and
2) Stopping players from picking up every single block inside the facility with the portal gun.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I really don’t wanna have to get players to install more than one mod, so is it possible?

I am loving this awesome mod, and was ecstatic about how much from portal you put into it!
I was then later disappointed about the turrets not being able to fire at people, the emancipation grille not being finished, and the portals not being see-through. I know… I read the FAQ… but the turrets really disappointed me. Can you fix? Thank you!

So, iChun, I learned there were a few NBTs that could be edited with turrets… And I made a bouncy turret that jumped and screamed hooray, and found a few of the NYI items in Too Many items… This mod is endless isn’t it?
-_- The turrets already shoot you actually. If you go into survival, then they will shoot you. However, they won’t shoot you if you were the one who placed it. If it is for an adventure map, they will shoot you.

I cant get it run I put the mods in my mod folder
and when I create a new world it starts to crash

I’ve looked through the config files, both the regular one and the one for my world, and I don’t seem to have a world override setting. Am I missing something? I actually want the turrets to shoot at me so I can test the tests I build, but they won’t since they’re defaulted to not do that and I can’t seem to figure out how to set a world override.
Its not a config file. You have to use commands.

The /pg commands confirm that the turrets are configured not to ignore me, yet they still do, and I can’t find a worldoverride via the /pg list command.

-Unlike the real Portal, you can’t see from the other portal’s point of view.
If you place a chest in front of a portal with the gravitigun it crashes and makes the world unusable.

I keep crashing with this mod and currently know of no solution.
Of those mods listed I use the following:
– Forge (9.11.1.935)
– OptiFine (1.6.4_HD_U_C6, though test and worked with portal gun currently disabled due to other mod compatibility issues)
– Zan’s Minimap (1.6.4)
– Inventory Tweaks (MC1.6.2-1.56-b77)
– Iron Chest Universal (5.4.1.630)
– NotEnoughItems (1.6.1.5)
– CodeChickenCore (0.9.0.6)
I can confirm that it works fine with the above listed mods.
I suggest you either examine the crash report to find the mod causing the crash or simply disable all the others not listed and re-enable them one at a time until the game crashes. That way you will know the last one enabled is the one causing the crash (unless there is more than one, in which case continue enabling the rest one at a time until you are sure they are all fine 🙂 )

When a modder releases his/her mod to the public he/she expects constructive feedback, bug reports and some suggestions for additions or changes. If they do not expect this then they either keep the mod to themselves or release them anonymously.
Nobody is saying that making mods is easy, well almost nobody, there are a few smug asses out there that like to big themselves up by saying how easy they find it to mod the game!
Without feedback you can not progress as a programmer. You will never find all the bugs yourself and you can not ignore suggestions as you WILL one day see one and think “actually, that’s a good idea, I will try to add that!”.

I didn’t find this in the wiki, but I shot at the moon, then shot at the ground. And on the portal that I shot at the ground, I saw a drawing of earth, and then it started sucking in blocks, then me. I fell from a high distance. Please tell me what this is
*facepalm* play the fucking game before downloading the mod. At the end of portal 2, you shoot a portal at the moon and one under wheatley then everything gets sucked out into space.
Some idiots call it a “black hole” *facepalm* Should have paid more attention in school 😛
Like Smash_Reality said, it’s a reference to the Portal 2 game and the effect is NOT a black hole, it’s simply everything in range getting blown out into the vacuum of space! 🙂

Only one problem: i see the portal completely white at day and black at night and i don’t see what’s in front of the other portal.

ALL versions of the Portal Gun mod I have used from MC 1.4.7 onwards have had this problem. The only time I ever see anything in the portal is when it has been fired at the moon and I see the ‘Earth’ through it!
All my friends who play on my servers with me have never seen the portal showing the other view through it either.
It seems the bug is more common in occurrence than the portal actually working and showing the other view through it!
I just play with it as it is, it’s still enjoyable, especially when you have Moon portal fights with your friends 😉 (Backup your server world first if you do that unless you don’t mind the damage to the world! lol)

forge has not updated to 1.7.2, so that is not possible. either downgrade your minecraft to 1.6 (by editing your profile) and install forge 1.6, or wait for forge 1.7
would be nice if there was naturally spawning aperture science facilities or something like that. just an idea.
How about including a set of blocks in the styles of the facilities so people can build their own? Currently there are a couple to start with but need more if we want to make something that looks like the testing facility 🙂

There’s a problem with sound I think all the vanilla sounds and songs are working but the mod sounds and songs arnt just wanted to let you know ^_^

He will not be able to update it to 1.7 because all the modders out there are trying to code out the new 1.7 .jar (where all the java stuff is such as textures and the blocks) and forge has not yet updated to 1.7 either.

Hello, i found…i wanna say a glitch??? when you portal gun a chest right next to a double chest, the graphic disappears but it acts as if the chest is now a triple chest and glitches out the gui lol.

It has been a long time sense i play’d with this mod, but if i remember correctly, its not a bug, its part of the /pg commands
you have to either change it in the config file or make sure you are on easy or higher difficulty.
