Morph: Info on Abilities.

Hey there, this post is here to explain Abilities in Morph to you because it’s too long to explain in the changelog!

Abilities…. Where do I start.. Well, first off right now they’re actually more of “traits” rather than “abilities”. However, for simplicity’s sake, we’ll call them abilities.

Packaged with the mod right now there are 8 abilities, some good, some bad. They are as follows:

  • Climb
  • Fly
  • Float
  • Fire Immunity
  • Hostile
  • Swim
  • Sunburn
  • Water Allergy

Explanation:

Climb: Mimics spider climbing up walls etc, you have to push yourself against a wall and you’ll climb up it. You need to remain pushed against the wall to climb up it, of course, and you fall if you let go.

Fly: Mimics creative flying, available for vanilla mobs that fly.

Float: Only one mob in vanilla supports this, and that’s the chicken. Instead of falling to your doom, you slowly float downwards like chickens do.

Fire Immunity: A variety of mobs have this, especially all the nether mobs. This will make you fire resistant and let you swim around in lava if you want to.

Hostile: Certain mobs are labelled hostile specifically because they try to target players. There is no use of this ability unless you enable Hostile Mode in the config (explained later).

Swim: This ability allows mobs to breathe underwater, and optionally, make them drown when out of water.

Sunburn: Think Zombies and Skeletons burning in sunlight. Yeah.

Water allergy: You take damage when wet. Like endermen and blazes.

To identify abilities, look in the Morph gui under the name of the morph, listed there are abilities that may be available to the mob. (For example, the skeleton has an additional fire immunity which affects wither skeletons and sunburn which affects normal skeletons instead).

Hostile Mode

This is a config option that affects the “Hostile” Ability. By default it is turned off. This modes allow you to walk amongst (some, not all) the hostile mobs in the game, if you are morphed as a hostile mob.

EG: You’re a skeleton and you walk up to a zombie, which completely ignores you unless attacked.

Mod support

Alright… Here’s the interesting bit. In terms of mod support, there’s two ways you can go.

1. Bug the Mod author to support the mod by using the API found here.
2. Allow the mod to try and figure out mod mob behaviour (Ability Tracking)

Ability Tracking

Also bundled with the Morph, is the ability of the mod for it to try and figure out what mod mobs have what abilities.

WARNING

This is a very slow and time consuming process. It is not *instant* and may never succeed in realising stuff like “the firebat should be able to fly”, or may give mobs the wrong ability. This is provided as a workaround solution to mod support without the API. Once the mod learns a mod mob ability it will save it to the config folder and will be loaded along with the mod.

This also uses the space around y-level 240 of the spawn point to do testing with mobs. I would recommend staying clear of this area if you want to leave the ability tracker enabled.

Once an ability is learnt it will be sent to all the clients currently connected to the server as to sync abilities client-server. That way, clients will be able to fly as well using a mod mob once the server has learnt that said mob can fly.

Simple enough, but this took days to work on, and might be buggy. Forgecraft did me a very good favour of not having to release a fix/update every half an hour for this. However, I find it “satisfactory enough” to be included in the release.

Usable abilities

Right now, usable abilities are planned. What are usable abilities? Stuff you can trigger on command, like teleportation, exploding, shooting projectiles, etc. HOWEVER, these are not included in Morph just yet, and will most likely come in the later update.

That’s about it I guess.

Cheers,
iChun

Suggestions: Flying as in creative mode is to cheaty and dousen’t really look right. How about making it so you have to pound space/jump to stay in the air. It should make mining almost impossible and mimic the motion of the bat.
Also you might want to consider using the aria above the nether to conduct your mob testing. That would keep it far away from players.

Remember this mod is still in beta. And he is still balancing and changing…

It’s done in each dimension, why? Do you see nether mobs in the overworld? No.
Do you see overworld mobs in the nether? No as well. That’s why it’s done per dimension.

Spamming jump to stay afloat is also unrealistic for mobs like the ghast and blaze, don’t you think?

maybe a good balance point would be to get that mobs health ie: as a bat i would have very low health, or as a blaze i could only fly for so long.

extra: wither skeleton needs to wither people when it hits them 😀

Specific mob abilities are not available at the moment, if you are talking about you being able to blow things up as a creeper, and being able to teleport as an enderman. You also might need a later version of morph.

Men, you should take a look to SHAPE SHIFTER, it has also an abilty stick, and a morph selector stick, the only problem its that it doesnt work with any other mods! … just saying…
Can you help the Creator of SHAPE SHIFTER to make it compatible with other mods? :3

I hope in a soon to come update you will add teleporting to the Enderman, because right now i use the Enderlord’s staff from legendary beasts. Once you do add it i’m going to troll my friends as an Enderman.

iChun, can you explain on how to change the config file to go on hostile mode? I have looked several times in the config folder but there’s only a config file of the morph in which I cannot open. The mod is great nevertheless, but it’s getting kinda on my nerves that zombies keep hunting me down. Thanks for the mod anyway though 🙂 I’ll keep using it.

is there a way to manually add abilities to mobs? so that i can configure some of the mobs that “should” have certain abilities have them instead of doing nothing.

    • keita June 12, 2014 12:27 am  Reply

oh and if i leave a dimension will the ability tracker still run?

  15. Bob July 28, 2014 12:51 pm  Reply

Can you tell me if you are working on some abilities for some mobs. Like, if you are a ghast or blaze you can shoot fireballs, ect. Because if you are, that would be pretty sweet.

P.S. I think that this mod is amazing. It looks very hard to make mods;especially ones that are as hardcore and stuff like this. Love the graphics btw.

Guys, if you want to turn hostile mode on, go to the config folder of your .minecraft and open Morph.cfg with notepad, wordpad, etc. press CTRL+F (/CTRL+H)
to open up the wordfinder, type in Hostile Ability Modes, that should help you find it if you are too lazy to scroll down, after that at the bottom of that paragraph or idk, there should be I:HostileAbilityMode=0, if it is 0 change it to 2 or choose one from the above, 0 1 2 3 4, it should recommend you to use 2, but you can just choose anyway.

I would really like that the when you morph into an Enderman when you hold spacebar and go forward you jump FAR and when you press C you teleport into the direction you are looking or in a random location tha will be AWSOME !!

Is there a way to specifically add traits to mobs? Im not going ti this, but an example would be giving creepers passive fire resistance.

Hi, my username in minecraft is Feleafy. What is the teleport key as the enderman morph? and can you make it to the latest version(1.8)?

    • Mysterymage June 1, 2015 8:25 am  Reply

Just saying he hasnt finished the “Special traits” part.
So wait for the “Enderman teleport” or “creeper explode”.He is vary busy and has a life to.And to make it 1.8.x.x would be to hard as most of the code of 1.8 nd up is very different. That is why he is re-doing Portal-guns and Grav-guns

why is it set to max 4 when there’s 5 options! i keep setting the max to 5 and selecting ability 5, but when the game starts, they get reset to 4 and is really pissing me off. i don’t want to be able to just walk among the hostiles and attack at will without recompense, but not being able to choose the 5th option to do it is absolute bullsh*t

  24. Tony November 5, 2015 2:42 am  Reply

Please add a config option to disable the max health decrease! For the love of god, PLEASE!
